| We are a service organization
made up of men and women who wish to become personally involved in our
community. The spirit of fellowship is an important element and comes from
mutual effort devoted to the common goal.
We are one of 8500 clubs in 82 countries
dedicated to the advancement of individual, community and national welfare;
and to strengthening of international goodwill.
Founded in 1915 and headquartered
in Indianapolis, Indiana, Kiwanis International is a thriving organization
of service- and community-minded individuals who support children and young
adults around the world.
Our Objectives are comprehensive,
and are those adopted by Kiwanis International.
-
To give primacy to the human and spiritual,
rather than the material values of life.
-
To encourage the daily living of the
golden rule in all human relationships.
-
To promote the adoption and application
of higher social, business and professional standards.
-
To develop by precept and example a
more intelligent, aggressive and serviceable citizenship.
-
To provide, through this club, a practical
means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service and to
build a better community.
To co-operate in creating and maintaining
that sound public opinion and high idealism which makes possible the increase
of righteousness, justice, patriotism and goodwill.
Guided by six permanent Objects,
Kiwanis clubs view their role within their respective communities with
a great deal of foresight. Key aspects to operating an effective club include:
-
Evaluating both children’s issues and
community needs on an ongoing basis
-
Conducting service projects to respond
to those identified needs
-
Maintaining an active membership roster
of professional business people who have both the desire and the ability
to serve their community.
|
Kiwanis also plays a special
role in developing future generations of leaders. K-Kids clubs at the elementary
school level, Builders Clubs in middle school and junior highs, Key Clubs
in high schools, and Circle K clubs at the collegiate level all are Kiwanis
organizations that teach community service and leadership skills to young
people.
